In what could turn out to be one of the best collabo's of the year, singer Olu Maintain brought reclusive Afrobeat King, Femi Kuti out of his New Afrika Shrine enclave to record a song with him last week (Tuesday, May 13). The yet to be titled song which was recorded at Hope Davies studios, Ikeja, Lagos will be produced by Foster Zeeno and will be contained in Olu's next album due soon.
Olu ascended his way back to the top in 2007 with the comeback hit song, "Yahoozee" and has been causing a buzz in the entertainment community with his flamboyant lifestyle since then.
Born Olumide Edwards Adegbolu a little over 30 decades ago, he made an inroad into Nigeria's music scene in 1998 with cousin, Tolu and Big Bamo as Maintain with the single, "Domttilla". The group went on to record and release seven albums together before Olu decided to go solo in 2006. (post from Hip HopWorldMagazine)
Shouts to HHW for the story, but on the real the best collabo of the year? I don't think so, unless Femi helps deliver Olu from looking like a 1980's wanna be pimp daddy.
When I saw this video, I cried out to my mightly ancestors! If only Marcus Garvey knew that going back to Africa would mean you'd find out your long lost African uncle w/his bama swagger got a recording contract and is big star. God, help the children!
